Financial Support

Students in the MSTP receive full financial support from several sources including the National Institute of Health training grant as well as funding from the School of Medicine’s Dean’s Office. MSTP students receive full tuition and fees, a competitive stipend support and health insurance. Additional support for travel to scientific meetings and residency interviews are provided.

All MSTP students are required to apply at least once for an external fellowship. This is to encourage graduate students to write a comprehensive and fundable proposal. Organizations that have awarded funding to UCI MSTP students include:

• NIH F30/F31
• AHA Medical Student Fellowship
• AHA Individual Predoctoral Fellowship
• Fulbright Fellowship
• ACA Suller Fellowship
• Dean’s Office Summer Research Fellowship Regents Fellowship
• Schneiderman Fellowship
• Department of Defense Predoctoral Fellowship
• UCI Committee of 1000 Graduate Students Fellowship
• UCI Developmental Biology Center (NIH) Predoctoral Training Grant

Housing for Students

All MSTP students are guaranteed on-campus housing for all years of their MDs and PhDs. All housing is apartment style and includes family housing for students who come to Irvine with partners and/or children. For students who choose to live off-campus, there are a variety of options of apartments or houses for rent within Irvine, Newport Beach, or Costa Mesa that are close to the medical school. Every year, we have a few MSTP students living across the street from the beach! The rates for graduate housing can be found here.
